Velden and the WÖRTHERSEE
Velden is an exciting place with lots to do, at the centre of Austria's 'Alpine Riviera'.
With fantastic mountain and lake views, the Velden Panorama apartment overlooks the Wörthersee, one of Austria's most popular holiday destinations.
The town has a world-famous casino, a golf course, and water sports: waterskiing, waterskiing courses, paragliding, boating, sailing, swimming, ringos, and a banana boat. There is a swimming and sunbathing area by the lakeshore.
Look out for the evening firework displays over the lake - you can watch them from the terrace.
A fishing lake and horse riding are available nearby, and just 20km away is the football stadium in Klagenfurt, one of the main venues for Euro 2008. Within a 40km radius there are forests, lakes, skiing, mountain climbing, bicycling, walking (there are hundreds of mountain walks in the area) and diving.
The area is especially popular for its nearby skiing facilities. The ski slopes at Gerlitzen are just a ten to fifteen minutes drive away. There's an ice skating rink and often the lake is frozen and can be skated on. There are 34 ski slopes in the vicinity of Velden; we can arrange travel, ski hire and ski courses.

Velden is just next to the southern border of Austria. Italy and Slovenia are just 30 minutes away by road, and with open borders and a common currency, make a handy day trip.
How to get to us
Klagenfurt airport is just 20km away. There are regular flights from Standsted - we can arrange pick up from the airport. Other airports close by include Salzburg and Graz, as well as Venice and Trieste (Italy); and Ljubljana (Slovenia, regular flights by Easyjet).
There are direct connections to Velden railway station (five minutes away) from Vienna and Venice, and connections from all major European cities.
The A2 motorway is close by, running between Villach and Klagenfurt and along to Vienna in one direction and to Italy and Salzburg in the other.

The lake has ample opportunities for lively summer activities. The lake can reach 25 degrees in the Summer.
Winter Sports
In winter, Carinthia attracts visitors from all over the world for its skiing and other winter sports.
Special Events
- June 2008 sees the European Football Championship in Klagenfurt Stadium, just 20km away. Germany, Croatia and Poland will all be playing here in the first round.
- The Harley-Davidson European Bike week takes place in early September, attracting over 40,000 participants.
- The Beach Volleyball Grand Slam Tournament takes place each year in the summer.
- The Carinthian Iron Man - Europe's biggest long distance triathlon - brings 2000 competitors every year.
Shopping
The luxury shopping area of Velden is nearby, with major shopping centres in Villach (Atrio) and the city Arkaden in Klagenfurt, plus further afield in Udine, Italy and Ljubljana, Slovenia - both less than a 2 hour drive.
Family Friendly
There's something for the whole family in Velden - from the world famous Minimundus theme park in Klagenfurt, to little lakes for swimming in, to hiking in the surrounding forests.
